Using make with OpenSCAD

It is often useful when working with OpenSCAD to generate .stl and .gcode files in an automated fashion. For this, I created a Makefile for use with GNU Make for generic OpenSCAD modeling.

Usage

  1. Create a project directory with the following file in it named Makefile.
  2. Create an .scad file in the same directory.
  3. Let make generate models for you by running make from the terminal:
    • Generate an .stl and .gcode for every .scad file in the project by running make all
    • Generate a plated .stl for every .scad file in the project by running make models
    • Generate an .gcode for every .scad file in the project by running make gcode
    • Remove all the generated files (leaving the original .scad files) by running make clean

Requirements

This makefile makes use other programs in order to generate models. To use it, you need a to have installed: OpenSCAD, Plater, and a slicing program like Slic3r.
